New Ford Expedition Review
The new Ford Expedition and Expedition Max are 3 row SUVs on a mission to serve families. With this latest generation, Ford has focused on performance to please the family driver and driver assistance to make parents less stressed.
How well do these large SUVs meet today’s benchmarks? Are they a good fit for your lifestyle? Get answers in this new Expedition and Expedition Max review.
Performance
The new Ford Expedition and new Ford Expedition Max provide shoppers with three excellent engines. The first is a turbo V6 that delivers 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. A ten-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive are standard.
Retuned for more performance, the twin-turbo can produce 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft. With suspension preview, the available suspension offers continuous controlled damping.
At the top of the performance ladder, a high-output Ecoboost produces 440 horses and 510 pound-feet. Like the other engines, you choose between rear-wheel and all-wheel drive.
With 4WD, these large SUVs gain terrain management. You can get all the Ford off-roading equipment you need to safely take this 3 row SUV on the trail.
Utility
Cargo is the main place where the Expedition Max pulls ahead of the regular model. Max Explorers have a cargo hold with 34.3 cubes of space. The regular Expedition has 20.9 cubes which is above average for its class. When all seats are folded, the standard edition claims 104.6 cubes vs 121.5 in the Ford Expedition Max
To help with hauling, you can get a cargo management system, power-fold tip-and-slide seats, and a power liftgate. The hatch even has a rear window that can be opened to access gear.
Towing numbers actually favor the regular Expedition, rated at 9,200 or 9,300 pounds. The Ford Expedition Max manages to handle up to 9,000 pounds, still a remarkable achievement.
Ford has some of the best trailering technology in the SUV marketplace. This includes Pro Backup Assist, trailer-included blind spot monitoring, trailer reverse guidance, and more.
Interior
When it comes to spaciousness, the new Ford Expedition and Expedition Max are big and bigger choices for families who need 7 or 8 seats often. At 171.9 or 172 cubes, passenger volume is generous at every position.
The front seats are power-adjustable and, in some cases, power-ventilated. That’s a nice trick on a hot summer day in Arizona. Multi-contour seats add Active Motion Massage.
Second rows start out with 41.5 inches, and if the third row is empty, they can slide back to claim even more space. Third rows can claim 36.1 inches or 40.9 inches of legroom, depending on where the second row is positioned. The reclining seats can gain a power function in higher trims.
Trims exude personality with elements such as the two-tone interior designs of the King Ranch or the cool tangerine stitching on the Timberline. Favorite top amenities include power-adjustable pedals, ambient lighting, and a B&O 22-speaker audio system.

Technology
For families stepping into the Ford Expedition and Expedition Max, a world of cutting-edge technology awaits. The dashboard is equipped with a range of features that not only simplify interactions but also maximize functionality, making every ride more enjoyable and convenient.
The centerpiece of this tech-savvy interior is the 12-inch touchscreen display, which comes standard and provides easy access to a wealth of information, navigational assistance, and entertainment options. But the real showstopper is the remarkable 15.5-inch screen, delivering a visually immersive experience that keeps you seamlessly connected to the latest updates and content.
Sync technology allows for seamless integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ensuring that your favorite apps and features are just a touch away. Behind the steering wheel, a dedicated screen provides real-time vital statistics, giving drivers immediate access to crucial information.
Families traveling with kids will appreciate the rear seat screen system, which offers entertainment options to keep young passengers engaged and content throughout the journey. And for driving enthusiasts, the Expedition features an exciting 12.3-inch digital instrument panel with fun gauges and extensive customization possibilities, making each drive a personalized and enjoyable experience.
Additionally, the Ford Pass app comes in handy on hot days, allowing owners to remotely start the SUV and cool the cabin before they even step inside. It's all part of Ford's commitment to making every aspect of the Expedition and Expedition Max's technology work together for an enhanced driving experience.

Safety
Comprehensive driver assistance is standard on every new Ford Expedition and Ford Expedition Max. Ford's advanced technology includes a blind spot monitor and a lane departure system, forming a protective shield against common causes of side collisions. These features enhance your awareness and actively help to prevent potential accidents, making your driving experience safer and more secure.
When it comes to parking the new Ford Expedition and Expedition Max, Ford offers a 360-degree view camera system to assist you in maneuvering your vehicle with confidence. Additionally, a rear cross-traffic alert system further reduces the chances of side collisions by warning you of oncoming traffic when backing out of parking spaces.
If your daily commute involves navigating busy traffic, then the adaptive cruise control feature is tailored for you. This technology ensures that your vehicle automatically adjusts its speed to match the flow of traffic, providing a smoother and more convenient driving experience. When an opening in traffic appears, it can swiftly accelerate to keep up with the pace, making it ideal for both city and highway driving.
Ford offers semi-automatic Blue Cruise, offering even more convenience and peace of mind during your journeys. This combines adaptive cruise and lane centering systems to reduce the driver’s burden on long boring stretches of interstate.
